"Time of Hope, Time of Despair: African American Struggle During Jim Crow”
The 13th Amendment brought great hopes for rights and opportunities for freedmen post-Civil War. Hopes were eroded with the imposition of Jim Crow.  However the forefathers of the 20th century Civil Rights Movement fought against discrimination and built stronger African American communities. Dr. Keith Krawczynski will discuss the African American experience in Alabama and the South from 1865 to 1900.
