Title: America and Alabama During the Depression Years
Location: Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library
Intended Audience: Open to the Public
Description: Last in the series, we come home to Alabama to screen The Grass Harp. Based on Monroeville native Truman Capote’s novel of the same name and filmed largely in Wetumpka, it takes a sentimental look at the human heart and life in a small town in Alabama prior to World War II. Discussion time will follow the screenings. Those who may have lived through the Depression or have preserved family stories of the time period are invited to share. Those who wish to share will also be invited to sign up to have their oral histories recorded at a later date and preserved for posterity. (Guides to the programs and recommendations for further reading and viewing will also appear in MCCPL locations prior to the viewing date).
